PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS
Series 19
SERVE PEOPLE
Servants are
people who meet other people’s needs…and they are paid for it. People are in
need and will always be in need. There’s abundance of needs in the world of
people. Meet people’s needs and you will connect to their abundance. Meeting
people’s needs, therefore, is a major strategy for connecting to the abundance
in the world. Meeting people’s genuine needs is a moral way of enjoying
abundance in life. Your thinking should always be on how to meet people’s needs
and be a blessing to them.
Kindly notice
that manipulating people is the opposite of meeting their needs. People that
manipulate others in order to get things out of them are not servants; they are
extortionist. Servants serve people to meet their genuine needs. Extortionist
don’t meet people’s needs yet get something out of them.
People will
always be weary with needs. Your wisdom is to connect to them through their
needs. Begin by asking, “What are the needs of people around here? What can I
do to meet their needs? You think of providing goods and services to meet
people’s needs. When people are willing to pay for your products and services
then you have created a business venture. The more people you serve, the richer
you become. So then, whatever you do, enjoy serving people. More people you
serve more abundance you enjoy. As you serve them and they pay you, then you
connect to financial abundance.
Servants of
people don’t serve because of what they can get from people. They serve because
they have a heart to serve. They serve because they love to serve. They serve
because they want to solve people’s problems. And solving problems is making
money. The more problems you serve the more money you make.
If you want to
serve people primarily because of what you can get from them then you have as
much poverty mentality as a person who doesn’t serve because he thinks he will
not get something in return.
If you want to be
a good servant of people, you may begin by praying for them - simply wishing them well. Prayer connects
heart to heart. As you pray for people, a supernatural connection is
established between you. Prayer prepares the ground for a peaceful coexistence.
Next, pursue
peace with people. Somebody said, “One hundred friends are not enough. On e
enemy is too much.” Make efforts to win more friends. Win friends; don’t make
enemies. Winning people will eventually favor you. Making peace with people is
good for your health. It feels good to know people want you, appreciate you,
care about you. It feels bad to know you’re not wanted.
One of the best
art you can learn is the art of making friends. Tolerate people. People can be
unreasonable, insensitive and ridiculous. Tolerate them, nonetheless. Because
tolerating people is the first step toward understanding them. And understanding
them will help you win their friendship.
Finally, provide
for people by making available to them things that will benefit them. Here are
two ways of providing for people: equipping them and empowering them. Equipping
people is giving them things that will aid their effectiveness at work.
Empowering people is developing them to improve as individuals. When you
empower people you help them develop personal qualities that will benefit their
character. When you empower people you help them develop positive attitudes.
Providing for
people goes beyond giving them things. It is empowering them to create things
for themselves. Providing for people is not giving them fish but teaching them
how to catch fish.
